House review of Prom Night (2008)

I remember a conversation I had with Robin about negativity and the distinct lack of it in a lot of the reviews that had been written. Whilst I hadn't purposefully gone to the cinema tonight to view an absolute shocker and tear it to shreds, I'm afraid that's the way it is going to end up!

Driving home, I tried to figure out what it is that makes a great horror movie but unfortunately I only came up with things that I don't want to see. Shortly thereafter it hit me that Nelson McCormick has managed to put all of my pet hates into one movie. That's quite a feat, congratulations Nelson.

So in short we have here a chick flick that is tied together with a horror movie that is so predictable that I pretty much had the whole plot sussed in the first 15 minutes of the film. There was nothing original, nothing new brought to the table, no novel ideas...Nothing to take the viewer by surprise. Attempts at suspense passed completely by the wayside and the killer is about as scary as the girl my mate got with last weekend - that's it! Dialog is mind numbingly dull...The characters are shallow and poorly defined.

No-one in the cast stood out, but then again, it would have been hard for even the most talented of individual to inject life, energy and charisma into such a poor script. I don't think (and this is unlike me) that we should point the finger of blame at the cast in this instance.

I'm trying to write a balanced review, but I can't find anything that was particularly well done in the entire hour and a half.

I eagerly await to find out how others receive this film - I'm quite certain that most will want their time and money back when the curtains close.

One of the worst horror films I have seen, 3/10

So, Robin, I think you'll agree the negative balance has been restored now!
